Al Huda’s Position on Moon sighting

Dear Community Members, Assalamu Alaikum.

Al Huda Institute’s goal has always been the upliftment of society through guidance from the Noble Qur’an and the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (SalAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam). One of the cornerstones of our Deen is to unite the hearts of the believers and what better month to bring about this unity than in the most blessed month of Ramadan.

After careful consideration and scholarly consultation with Dr. Idrees Zubair, Al Huda Institute is pleased to announce that moving forward, we will be relying on the Crescent Committee of Canada to start and end our Islamic calendar months. The Crescent Committee’s criteria mandates that it will accept moon sighting reports from any location in the world that is confirmed by a reputable council or judiciary body in that particular country.

What this means for us, as Muslims in Canada, is that our holy months of fasting and our days of celebration will be aligned with most of the Muslims, both across the globe and here in Canada, thereby bringing about the unity that so many of us yearn for at these special times.

We encourage you to familiarize yourself with Crescent Committee’s guidelines and procedure by visiting their website at http://www.crescentcommittee.ca
