The prophet saw said:

“There are no days in which good deeds are better than these days—meaning the ten first days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah”. -Bukhari

In the month of October, the spirit of Dhul Hijjah could be felt by the Al Huda Institute staff and students. Al Huda took an amazing initiative of spreading the message of virtues of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah.

As people all around the world prepared for Hajj this year, we at Serving Humanity thought of making the first ten days of Dhull Hijjah a time to do good deeds. A time to give and a time to reflect.

Serving Humanity for the first time launched an inter-class challenge that encouraged students to collect the most food items. The class that would collect the most food items would win the challenge. The process of collection was documented on our notice board which showed how much food was being collected each day.

Collectively, with the help of Allah, all the weekday classes collected a total of 1038 items.

Young girls and boys rushed to the boards to check for updated scores on which class was winning. The zeal and enthusiasm with which the classes contributed the food items was truly inspirational for all the students and staff members.

We saw little girls carrying heavy bags with great excitement and big smiles. The children helped to uplift everyone’s spirit in the month of Dhul Hijjah as they walked through the entrance of the building. One teacher came to us and asked out of curiosity, “why are the children so excited?” Alhamdullilah, all success comes from Allah (swt), we were overwhelmed with the contribution of food from all classes.

We would like to thank all, staff, students, and visitors for their contribution in the great success of the project!

Our donations helped families at the Muslim Welfare Centre and the Muslim Food Assistance Program.

Here are some pictures that captures the excitement of the project:

Even the teachers helped in bringing the food items.

Lots and lots of cans.
