About the course

This course will cover the basics of tajweed theory with a focus of the Qira’at of Hafs an Asim.  This course will be covering the topics below in detail going from very basic to advanced.
1. Tajweed: what it is, its importance in Qur’ānic reading, and other introductory notes
2. Points of articulation of the letters (Makhārij al-ḥurūf)
3. Manners of articulation of the letters (Ṣifāt al-ḥurūf)
4. Tafkhīm and tarqīq
5. The rules of idghām, iẓhār, and ikhfā’ for meem sakin and noon sakin and tanween
6. The rules of madd
7. The rules of Waqf (stopping)
In addition to theory, there will be a weekly practical recitation by everyone enrolled in the course in a traditional halaqa style wherein students will sit in a circle and recite to the teacher.

Who is eligible for the course?
  • Brothers aged 18+
  • Have the basic ability to read Qur’anic text.
  • Students must also have a personal interest to learn and understand the Qur’an.
I do not meet the prerequisites of this course. Do you offer any other courses where I can learn the Qur’an?

I want to join this course but I am living outside Canada. What is the procedure to join this course?

This is a course designed for local audiences. AlHuda Online offers some courses where young boys and young men are also accepted. Please visit

For any other long-term courses also, Al Huda does not facilitate visa/residence arrangements.

I heard about the course late, can I still join? How will I cover the missed lessons?

Yes, late admissions are accepted upon meeting course prerequisites (see question no.1).

You are required to make up for the missed lessons in order to obtain a certificate in Surah Al Baqarah. Please discuss with Brother Uzair for more information.

Are there any age limits?
  • Brothers 18+
My brother/son/nephew is very brilliant but he doesn't meet the minimum age requirement, can he please apply?
Students under the age limit will be interviewed by the Course Coordinator, to determine their level of comprehension. Students who don’t fit the learning expectations of the course are still welcome to attend class as listener.


What are the teacher's qualifications in tajweed?

Br. Uzair has received ‘Ijaza from Shaykh Uthman Khan in the recitation of Hafs ‘an ‘Asim as well as the 10 variant readings (‘Ashara Sughra as per the way of Shatibiyya wa Durrah).
He is also currently studying Tayyibat al-Nashr with Shaykh Uthman and is working towards his ‘Ijaza in ‘Ashara Kubra as well.

Br. Uzair has been teaching tajweed and other topics including Aqeedah and Seerah over the past 5 years to students in the Al Huda weekend school and is currently a teacher with Critical Loyalty teaching the recitation of Hafs ‘an ‘Asim.

In addition, Br. Uzair is currently a Software Development Manager in a software development consultancy in downtown Toronto and graduated with a Bachelors of Software Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2007.
Br. Uzair actively pursues other Islamic studies opportunities part-time and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Sciences from AlMaghrib Institute.

Do I receive a certificate at the end of this course?

Students who complete the entire dlass will qualify for the certificate based on graduating criteria.

How do I register?

The registrations are to be done Online Only. The online form can be found here.

Once the Online form is submitted and the fee is paid, an admission acceptance email from the Course Coordinator will be sent and then you may pay the course fee. It may take up to 5-7 days to receive any response. We will appreciate your cooperation.

When are we supposed to register by?

Ideally, registration should be completed as early as possible.

What happens if the student enrolls after the registration due date has passed? How will I cover the missed lesson?
You may come and speak to the course coordinator in person and will be guided.


When does the course begin?

The course begins on the evening of Friday, October 13th 2017, inshaAllah.

What is the complete duration of the course as well as the days and timings?

Starting date: 13th October, 2017

Completion date: June 2018

What are the class timings?

7:00pm – 9:00pm Every Friday

Changing Salah times will be built within the timetable to ensure all students and team members pray in congregation according to Al Huda Masjid schedules.


What is the tuition fee of the course?

Flat Fee $ 100/term – payable Online Only

Each term is 3 months.

I cannot pay the fees, can I still do the course?

Anyone with financial challenges can apply for financial assistance. Please speak to the course coordinator for further information.


What books are we required to have?
Needed books will be provided by the Course Coordinator on the Orientation day. If you join late, please contact him via email on when you can receive them.


What is the required % of attendance in order to receive the certificate?

Minimum 80% attendnce is required


Are there any evaluations?

There will be group and individual recitation assessments throughout the duration of the course. 


In order to obtain the certificate, am I required to complete all the tests/assessments?

Yes, the student must successfully complete all the required assessments with a passing grade (80%), and maintain an Attendance of 80% in order to obtain a certificate.


Is there any service at the Institute I can volunteer for?
Yes, the Institute is always in need of committed, energetic and modest male volunteers for a variety of events and setup needs. If you are able to dedicate a few hours every week, please discuss with the Course Coordinator.
Will I be able to get any reference letter if I do any volunteer services there?
Yes, students can get their volunteer hours mentioned with their reference letter.


I have a physical condition which prevents me from sitting over an hour, can I still join? Will there be special accommodation for my condition?
This can be discussed with Course Coordinator as per need.
Are there any extra hours I'll need to spend studying over the week?
Yes, this course will have its weekly learning requirements and assessments, hence students must be prepared to dedicate few hours every week to accomplish good results. Homework is assigned in this course as in any other educational program.
