Foster Care and the Muslim Community
The Prophet, صلى الله عليه وسلم, said, “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together to illustrate. [Bukhari]
There is a huge parallel between raising an orphan and fostering a child. They are similar in ways that we do not often think about. How much importance do we place on the subject of fostering? Is there a need for foster parents in the Muslim community?Join us for a workshop on Thursday, August 9, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Al Huda Institute, 5671 McAdam Road, Mississauga, to learn more about foster care-giving, and how to become a foster caregiver. Get all your questions answered by a panel of speakers including social workers from a fostering agency, and Muslims who are currently involved in foster care. RSVP now.
Foster Care Workshop Recap
Thank you Foster Link and Maple Star Services for an extremely beneficial and enlightening session on foster caregiving! It helped raise awareness about the importance of being involved in Foster Care giving as a community. Here’s what some of our attendees had to say after the session:
“It was a much needed workshop. Cleared a lot of misconceptions about foster parenting. Also, it highlighted on the very real issue of Muslim kids in Foster care. Hearing the testimony of a Muslim couple was very helpful and heartwarming.” – Mohammed
“This was an eye-opening workshop. It was heart-wrenching and it made me realize the great need of having Muslim families in the Foster Care system as caregivers. I’ve come out of it with a greater level of admiration and respect for foster parents.” – S.P.
